NEW RESERVE IN TAJIKISTAN

Under clause 16 of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Nature Reserves”, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan decreed that the Zorkul Federal Reserve be established.

The Zorkul Federal Reserve is affiliated with the Forestry Management of the Republic of Tajikistan. Its area is 87,770 hectares. Heretofore, Tajikistan had three reserves (Tigrovaya Balka Reserve, Dashti-Dzhumsky Reserve and Ramit Reserve) and 17 sanctuaries with the overall area of 436,000 hectares. With this new reserve, the overall area of protected spaces in Tajikistan exceeds half a million hectares.

The creation of the new reserve coincided with the “March for Parks”, now a regular event in the Republic, the Tabiat bulletin of the Youth Ecocenter (Dushanbe) reported.
