NATIONAL PARKS FUND COMPETITION
AWARDS FOR 1999

The Fund Board received 98 applications; 95 of them participated in the competition.

Seventy Natural Protected Territories (49 nature reserves and 21 national parks), 4 NGOs involved in environmental education, 1 school and 1 university took part in the competition.

The projects submitted for the Protection of Territories and Ecological Education Awards were evaluated by two expert teams. Applications for the Green Cup Award (protection, restoration and reintroduction of vegetation) were also considered.

The experts and the Fund Board distributed the awards among the following projects:

“Protection of Territories” Award

Valdaisky National Park
Project:
  Improving the protection of the natural complex of the Valdaisky National Park.

Ust'-Lensky State Nature Reserve
Project:
 Developing security at the Ust'-Lensky Reserve.

Kaluzhskie Zaseki State Nature Reserve
Project:
 A modern system of radio communication for the security of the reserve.

“Ecological Education” Award

Vodlozersky National Park (Onega branch)
Project:
  Ecological and area study expedition.

Alania National Park
Project:
  Noah's Ark: the Alania National Park’s potential in environmental education.

Barguzinsky State Nature Biosphere Reserve
Project:
  We love what we know: booklet about the Barguzinsky Reserve.

Bolshaya Kokshaga State Nature Reserve (“Reserves Bulletin” newspaper)
Project:
  Problems of reserves and national parks: publications contest.

Green Cup Award

Pleshcheevo Ozero National Park
Project:
  Creating a breeding and production tree nursery on the model of the Pereslavl Arboretum.

Daursky State Nature Biosphere Reserve
Project:
  Preserving the cranes in Southeastern Transbaikalia.
